ONSSA present at the Date Fair in Erfoud (Sidattes 2017)
Under the theme: “the valuation of dates, added value for the oasis economy”, the 8th edition of the International Dates Fair (Sidattes 2017) was inaugurated on October 26, 2017 in Erfoud in the presence of Mr. Aziz Akhannouch , Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, Mr. Mohamed Bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi, Qatari Minister for Municipalities and the Environment, Mr. Hamou Ouheli, Secretary of State in charge of rural development and water and forests, Mr. Mohamed Benribag, Wali of the Drâa-Tafilalet region and Governor of the province of Errachidia, as well as several central and regional officials.
As the competent authority in charge of varietal certification and sanitary and phytosanitary control of dates throughout the production chain, the National Office for Food Safety (ONSSA) participated in this important event through the installation of a stand at the level of the institutional marquee of the Department of Agriculture, where the Office presented, through panels, the techniques and stages relating to the process of control and certification of date palm seedlings, the phytosanitary actions undertaken for the protection against the main diseases affecting the date palm, as well as the actions of sanitary control of dates and their derivatives.
Visitors to the stand were welcomed, throughout the duration of this show, by an ONSSA team who oriented them and made them aware of the phytosanitary aspects of date palm cultivation, the use of certified plants, the means of fight against diseases and pests (Bayoud, red weevil); ONSSA health authorization/approval procedures, etc.
ONSSA also took part in the various conferences and scientific and technical workshops organized on the sidelines of the show.
It should be remembered that this exhibition, which has acquired an international dimension, aims to highlight the various links in the date sector, to develop the sectors linked to the oasis ecosystem and to create a socio-economic dynamic for the benefit of the region.
