  • Fall Armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda) awareness and training days

The National Office of Food Safety (ONSSA) organized in collaboration with the FAO, three days of awareness and training for the farmers operating in the corn sector:

  • February 16, 2023 in the Region of Marrakech – Safi;
  • February 23, 2023 in the Region of Rabat – Salé – Kénitra;
  • March 02, 2023 in the Region of Souss – Massa.

These days are part of the regional project TCP/SNE/3901 entitled “Emergency Preparedness and Response to Strengthen Management Capacities of Maghreb Countries to Mitigate the Impact and Risk of Fall Armyworm in North Africa”,  aimed at strengthening the capacity of the Maghreb countries in managing this transboundary quarantine pest.

These meetings allowed participants to acquire knowledge on the bio-ecology of the armyworm, alternative control methods, as well as monitoring techniques for this pest to prevent its entry into Morocco. Also, an overview was given on the maize field school as a platform for learning and sharing experiences between farmers and experts to strengthen their resilience against this pest.
