  • A cooperation protocol signed between ONSSA and ASAE (Portugal)

Mr. Ahmed Bentouhami, Director General of the National Office for Sanitary Safety of Food Products (ONSSA) and Mr. Pedro Portugal Gaspar, Inspector General of ASAE (Portuguese Authority for Food and Economic Safety) signed at the headquarters of the ‘ONSSA, March 12, 2015, a cooperation protocol, the objective of which is the establishment of a partnership framework between the two institutions. The signing ceremony took place in the presence of H.E. Maria Rita Ferro, Ambassador of Portugal in Rabat.

On the sidelines of this ceremony, the two parties held a working session to define the main areas of cooperation, a provisional program and the terms of its implementation. This new partnership will mainly focus on the control of food products of animal and plant origin and on inter-laboratory collaboration.

It should be noted that the ASAE is the Portuguese authority responsible for inspections and the prevention of fraud in all areas (food and non-food products); it is also in charge of the analysis and communication of risks relating to food products.
