Mr. Ahmed Bentouhami, Director General of ONSSA and Mr. Didier Nils, Representative of the Delegation of the European Union in Morocco, chaired the closing ceremony of the institutional twinning project on the control of plant protection products, fertilizers and supports de cultures, which took place on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at the Hassan II Agronomic and Veterinary Institute in Rabat, in the presence of representatives of the embassies of France and Germany; the French Ministry of Agriculture, Agrifood and Forestry (MAAF), the French National Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health Safety (ANSES), the German Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL), as well as professionals and various Moroccan ministerial departments.
This project, which started in March 2015, is part of the process of regulatory convergence towards the Community acquis and the improvement of the management of plant protection products, fertilizers and growing media; it was financed by the European Union to the tune of 1,200,000 euros, its management was entrusted to a Franco-German consortium.
Achieving the project’s objectives required the mobilization of 80 expert missions from the French and German institutions involved and study visits by ONSSA executives to these institutions.
During the seminar which lasted two days, the European and Moroccan experts discussed the main results achieved, particularly in the following areas:
- The management of plant protection products through marketing authorizations (AMM);
- Control of the plant protection product supply chain from import to use;
- Management of fertilizers and crop media;
- Management of pesticide residues for better consumer protection.
