Honey packaging sector
In order to protect public health and ensure the loyalty of the honey trade, the ONSSA services ensure the control and monitoring of the quality and safety of local and imported honey.
The packaging units of locally produced honey and the imported honey are monitored by the veterinary services in order to ensure the conditions of treatment, packaging and traceability of this commodity.
In order to monitor the traceability of honey imported in barrels, each importer of bulk honey must have a unit authorized by the ONSSA for the honey packaging activity. In the event that the importer does not have a unit, he must present evidence justifying that the honey will be packaged in an authorized unit. In all cases, the marketing of unpackaged (bulk) honey should not take place.
To be authorised in terms of health, honey packaging establishments must meet the requirements of the laws and regulations in force, in particular Law n°28-07 The Commission has adopted a proposal for a Council Directive on the safety of foodstuffs and the texts adopted for its application.
